Salon Manager


The primary responsibilities of the Salon Manager include: build and maintain gross sales to meet budget, establish a productive and inviting atmosphere for internal and external customers, develop staff members to the extent of their ability, oversee all operational matters within the salon and operate salon profitability to meet budget.

Primary Job Functions

  • Hire staff: Work in coordination with District Manager and Recruiter to maintain staff levels, conduct interviews as needed and schedules new hire training
  • Terminate staff: Follow disciplinary standards to enforce policy and procedure in the salon, up to and including termination.
  • Review staff: Conduct monthly reviews on new staff for the first ninety days and as per policy beyond the first ninety days
  • Set stylist and salon goals to achieve/exceed budgeted goals
  • Initiate monthly salon meeting to inform staff of salon promotions, progress on goals and other issues
  • Delegate and follow up on in-salon responsibilities, including developing staff to assume additional responsibilities
  • Schedule work hours for staff as per guidelines to maintain correct efficiency levels
  • Confront non-performance through one on one coaching and counseling, with proper documentation
  • Ensure the training of all staff members by the following new hire guidelines and scheduling attendance at continuing education classes
  • Run and post weekly reports
  • Use the District managers checklist to conduct a walkthrough each Monday
  • Ensure all office correspondence is posted and signed by all staff members
  • Submit all requested information in a timely fashion
  • Oversee all aspects of the Cost Cutters Hair Salon to ensure 100% customer satisfaction with all services and products while promoting salon growth and profitability

Position Requirements

  • Proficiency in haircutting and styling, permanent wave and hair coloring and any services offered by Cost Cutters
  • Ability to train others both technically and in people skills
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and on paper
  • Ability to understand the business aspects of the salon: i.e. reports, budgets, retail and efficiency
  • Ability to lead and motivate others
  • Ability to delegate job responsibilities and duties and complete follow through


  • Cut, perm and color hair as well as perform any other services connected with professional hair care.
  • Be responsive to customer’s needs and maintain excellent customer service
  • Report to work according to the schedule set by management
  • Abide by state laws, salons rules, regulations and policies
  • Follow company dress code
  • Work in other Cost Cutters salons as needed
  • Attend shop meetings
  • Meet or exceed production standards set by the company
  • Meet or exceed retail standards set by the company
  • Serve as a receptionist as needed
